Dear CarriageWorks friend, Recently completing the controversial season of Salome – In Cogito Volume III, we've been inundated with passionate responses to the work. Created and performed by THE RABBLE, Salome sparked heated debate in the post-show foyer. Jason Blake from The Sydney Morning Herald has called the performances "convulsive and violently physical" and Max Lyandvert's Sound Design "savage and exceptional", giving the show a commendable 8/10! If you missed the show, or if you'd like to keep track of the debate, check out these links to the reviews: Jason Blake – The Sydney Morning Herald, Nicholas Pickard – Sydney Arts Journo, ABC News. Coming soon in June, JOLTarts, Australia’s premier sound-art presenters come to CarriageWorks with Sono Perception, a kooky showcase of sonic artists blurring the boundaries between sound, music and noise. Then, hot on their heels, Synergy Percussion feature the world’s BEST drummer, Fritz Hauser in Space and Time. So get ready to be vibrated as CarriageWorks dishes up some exciting sonic feasts! Also in this month's e-news, we'd like to introduce you to our delightful sponsor, Hanging Rock Winery. UNDERBELLY: PUBLIC ARTS LAB & FESTIVAL NEEDS YOUR SUPPORT! Underbelly runs over 10 days and the production requirements are extensive. Organisers of Underbelly are supporting 40 multi-disciplinary projects from collectives of artists. This means they require an enormous amount of equipment and materials. While organisers encourage artists to be proactive in the community and find support where they can, the harsh reality of equipment costs is a restrictive force that stands in the way of great work. CarriageWorks, together with Rinse Out Inc. are working hard to secure the budget through in-kind support of services and equipment, fundraiser events and through the generous support of City of Sydney Council. The Festival and its organisers make limited income through ticketing since the lab itself is free - and the festival is a low-cost event as the overall goal of the event is to be accessible to arts lovers of all ages and incomes. We would like to invite you to come on board as a supporter of Underbelly Public Arts Lab + Festival by making a tax deductible donation to the Australia Cultural Fund, operated by the Australia Business Arts Foundation (AbaF). If you can help contribute to this amazing event in Sydney’s cultural scene, please visit www.underbelly.com.au for more details. |
